Features of The Miller Building

Architectural Highlights

The Miller Building stands three stories tall, prominently featuring windows spanning its entire length across each floor. A striking address marker is seen on the front southeeast corner. As one of the tallest structures in the area, its height underscores its significance.

Innovative Design for Its Time

At the time of construction, the building showcased unique architectural elements rarely seen elsewhere, such as gracefully curved windows on the top floor at the southwest and southeast corners. Additionally, high-quality cast stone lights surround the windows, accentuating the building’s distinctive look. Two Juliet balconies facing east further enhance its sophisticated appearance.

Luxurious Appearance

The Miller Building was constructed with distinctively luxurious gold-colored brick, creating an eye-catching design that was as beautiful as it was costly. Adding to its unique character, a covered walkway precedes the main entrance—a standout feature along Main Street designed to elevate the building's prominence.

Symbolism for the Elks

Above the building's black door facing north is a symbolic clock, representing the "11 O'Clock Toast." This serves as a reminder for members of the Benevolent Order of the Elks to honor absent members, particularly those who have passed away. The Elks occupied the top floor until they relocated to their new lodge at 200 Opal Street.
